These terms cover your use of Helmsman. By creating an account you agree to them.

What Helmsman is

A bookkeeping helper. It organises the transactions you import, estimates your net worth and drafts a sole-trader profit and loss from the rows you tag as business. You can record the business's share of a household cost, such as a room used as an office, and download that year as a spreadsheet.

Not advice

Nothing in Helmsman is financial, investment or tax advice, including the spreadsheet. Prices are delayed, exchange rates are reference rates, and suggestions are simple rules. Check figures before relying on them, and ask a qualified adviser or accountant before making decisions or filing a tax return. You remain responsible for your own tax affairs.

Your account

Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us at info@tryhelmsman.app if you think someone else has used your account. Accounts are for one person's own finances.

Your data

What you import stays yours. You let Helmsman store and process it only to run the service for you, as set out in the privacy page. You can delete it at any time. On Pro, or during the trial, you can download a backup, export transactions as CSV and download the tax spreadsheet. On Free those downloads are locked.

Plans and payment

Every new account gets Pro free for 14 days, without a card. After that it moves to Free unless you subscribe to Pro, billed monthly or yearly through Stripe. Free keeps one account and the last three months of history. The tax view, invoices, backups and restore, the accountant's spreadsheet, transaction CSV export and share images need Pro or the trial. A subscription that Stripe marks active, trialing or past due counts as Pro, including while a failed payment is being retried. You can cancel from Settings at any time; Pro then runs to the end of the period you paid for. Moving to Free never deletes anything: what is over the Free limits is hidden until you subscribe again. A price you subscribed at stays yours for as long as the subscription runs.

Fair use

Don't try to reach other people's data, disrupt the service, overload it with automated requests, or upload anything you have no right to. Accounts that do can be suspended or closed.

Availability

Helmsman is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but can't promise it will always be available or free of errors, so keep your own copies of anything important; the backup download on Pro exists for that.

Liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for losses from decisions made using figures in Helmsman, or for indirect losses. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending your account

You can delete your account from your Profile page whenever you like. We may close an account that breaks these terms, and will tell you why when we can.

Changes and law

If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and we email you before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
